Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)
Intended Audience: The Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), course is designed for anyone interested in learning more about the emergency response system and in being a first responder. The EMR is usually the first trained individual who arrives at the scene of an emergency.
Course Description: The primary focus of an EMR is to initiate immediate lifesaving care to critical patients. As an EMR, you will possess the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide lifesaving interventions while awaiting additional EMS response. You will also assist higher level providers on scene and during transport.

- Respiratory emergencies
- Cardiac problems
- Strokes
- Seizures
- Trauma
- Childbirth emergencies
The EMR initial program is for people who have never taken an EMR course before or whose certification has lapsed by more than one year. Mid-Minnesota EMS Education, Inc. is approved by the Minnesota Emergency Medical Services Regulatory Board as and EMS Education Agency. Students who successfuly complete this course may apply for Minnesota State Certification as an EMR.
Course Length:
48 hours plus required online coursework.
